1. Families For Life Champions: Free training for Camden residents
- 6 October to 17 November on Tuesdays, from 10am to 12.30pm
- If you are a parent or carer you can take part in free volunteer training and become a Families for Life Champion.
- FFL Champions support families with children aged two to 11 and share information about healthy activities in Camden.
- They’ll learn new skills, gain confidence, meet new people and boost their CVs, which will help them find paid work.
- Travel and childcare costs are covered and refreshments provided.
- The next FFL Champions programme, led by the Council’s Children and Young People’s Health and Wellbeing Team, runs from 6 October to 17 November on Tuesdays, from 10am to 12.30pm, at Peckwater Tenants‘ Association Hall, Peckwater Street, NW5 2UE.

2. Free training as Outreach Parent Volunteers at The Parent House. Join us!
- We are looking for Islington parents to train with us and then join us as Outreach Volunteers.
- The course takes place every Wednesday morning from 9.30am to 12.15pm – starting on the 16th of September 2026
- You will complete a 12 week course of interactive and facilitated training, alongside other parents, and will learn how to engage in community networks across the borough. Then you will volunteer for us by supporting other parents, providing information and running focus groups.
The course takes place every Wednesday morning from 9.30am to 12.15pm – starting on the 16th of September 2026 at 55 Calshot Street, N1 9A.
We train parents to do this volunteer work because we have found that parents who use our services are the best people to share information about Islington services with fellow parents. They are also great at finding out what parents want and need, because parents trust other parents. We also believe in the power of groups and teamwork, people get so much done in teams.
This volunteering opportunity starts in September 2026 , you will be part of a facilitated group of volunteers from September to December . You will attend 12 training sessions at The Parent House. At these sessions you will,
- Meet a team of Islington parents, who share your concerns
- Develop your communication skills, with a focus on listening
- Learn how to use The Parent House’s systems
- Explore your values and your knowledge
- Learn about community research
- Learn about Islington services
- Have fun and use creative communication methods
- Receive a Parent House Level 1 certificate
We also support parents with their other needs including foodbanks, free clothes and links into useful services.
The second term is from January to March 2027, with the support of Parent House workers, you will begin your volunteering,
- Visiting other local services with a team member
- Sharing your knowledge with parents you meet at events and visits
- Continuing to develop local knowledge
- Developing knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice
- Listening to parents for Community Research
- Helping The Parent House communicate with professionals and parents
- Receiving a Parent House level 2 certificate
You will have the chance to train as a Hate Crime Ambassador if you decide you want to support victims of crime. We like our volunteers to stay with us for a year.
